Botox is the first and only FDA-approved drug that is used to cosmetically improve the appearance of wrinkles, especially crow’s feet and brow lines. It does so by temporarily paralyzing the muscles. Clinically, Botox also treats more than 20 different medical conditions including certain muscular conditions, migraines and leaky bladders. When it is injected in very small doses, it prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscles, prohibiting them from contracting. Before injection, the doctor dilutes Botox in saline and then administers it into the neuromuscular tissues. It usually takes about 1-2 weeks for maximum effect to occur. Most patients do not experience any side effects with Botox, but some may feel some mild discomfort or numbness in the injection area. Risks include dry mouth, headaches or eye/face drooping. Pregnant or nursing mothers are advised not to use Botox.

Dermal Fillers If you are looking for plumper lips, softer wrinkles / creases or a more youthful / full face, dermal fillers may be your answer. They are often used in conjunction with other skin enhancement procedures, notably Botox injection. Fillers offer many of the same results as plastic surgery but without the recovery time. They are not permanent and the treatment must be repeated to maintain the results. Dr. Gerber is well trained in both dermatology and cosmetic surgery, which is essential for safe and extraordinary results.

Fillers are injected in an outpatient setting; each injection only takes a few moments to perform. To start, an antibacterial agent is applied to each of the injection sites. Then, a topical anesthetic is administered. Pain or discomfort is minimal, but an ice pack can be applied to alleviate any tenderness. Scars and deep wrinkle lines may require multiple injections / visits.

PDO threads (polydioxanone suture) are a suture material that is placed in the skin via a cannula to help reverse the signs of aging skin. The threads used are thinner than hair and are made of proteins that can help lift and smooth the face.   The results from PDO threads typically last for 12-18 months!  Once the suture material is placed it will dissolve naturally over 8 weeks.  As the suture material dissolves it stimulates your own body's ability to make collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid!  Thanks to this non-surgical, mechanical lift with skin rejuvenation, a natural look can be achieved.  PDO threads are helpful prior to having a facelift.  Since surgery is meant for cutting away tissue, PDO threads are one way to volumize and restore tissue in more hollow prone areas for more natural results.   They can be used for those that are not ready for surgery and are a great adjunct to dermal fillers as there are limits to where filler can be placed to create lift.  The entire procedure usually takes less than an hour.  We offer personalized cosmetic consults with Dana Pilz, our expert cosmetic PA to determine how to best achieve your desired look!
